Thoughts for the day…

Life is what you make of it.

Enjoy the things you do and do the things you enjoy.

Saturday Summary by Richard

The sun was shining, the wind was blowing, and we had a great day.

10 competitors showed up to race, and race we did. Entertainment was provided by the Inter 20 doing ballet dancing, sometimes with two people on board, sometimes with one person on board (apparently tactics were to get on board the competing Dart 18 to slow them down) and sometimes with two people apparently water skiing behind it.

The Enterprise dominated the racing in the dinghy fleet in race one, and gave us all a schooling of how it should be done.

The slow handicap dinghies had a good race too, holding their ground whatever size of boat people threw at them (stood their ground against my Achilles 24 with no problems.)

Thanks to all that helped arrange it, OOD and safety cover.

Post racing was enjoyed on the roof, with nice beverages, good food, and a great display of control from the Royal Air Force who we had drafted in to do a small air show at the long slip for us, hovering at what looked like well below mast height and dropping people off and picking people up.

Here’s hoping that tomorrow brings some more boats out onto the water, and we have another great sail.

Andrew Edwards is back from Oz!!!

Hi Laserbods,

I don’t know whether you remember me mentioning that Andrew Edwards (aka Safety One) is doing some mad foreign drinking game which involves cycling from Paris to Barcelona. I’m hoping to help him raise some of the money for his chosen charity. I have attached a poster, which details how you, a valued Laserbod, can try out a cat (eek!) without losing any street cred whatsoever. In fact I’m rather hoping that Rich W or Paul H (or both) will take some photos of the event so you can have a nice fb/family photo album momentum to show the (grand)children… Look what I used to get up to before I became all old and boring!

Of course you can sponsor him online, but where’s the fun in that?

Come down to the Knab on any/some/all of the days below (all dates in July).

Saturday 6th (1500 – 1900)
Sunday 7th (1500-1900)
Thursday 11th (2000)
Saturday 13th (1300).

This is as important as winning the Summer Series!

See you there!

Regatta this weekend

Hi Laserbods,

Rich has just reminded me to get out of the hammock and write to remind you all of the Summer Open Regatta Series 1 this weekend. Saturday and Sunday.

Starts are 1100 and 1200 respectively, just before high water. Don’t be late!

No racing this Thursday, but I have a feeling Oscar will treat us with a lovely trapezoidal next week (fingers, toes and eyes crossed).

Plenty of wind this week too. Parp!

On the mend, not round the bend (yet)

Hi Laserbods,

What a week.

A quick thank you to John Shapton for updating the Summer Series for us. Thanks John!

Frankie seems to be running away with it at the moment, so I think this calls for some tactical sailing. Lots of covering.

Last Sunday  (Father’s Day) was, as I suspected it would be, a fab sail. Even Oscar Chess found himself abandoning the safe untackable Dart for the more manoeuvrable Kirby Torch…er sorry… Laser… I’m sure he wasn’t disappointed even if he came in after Patrick Morgan.

So, tomorrow looks like a force 5 gusting 6 Westerly (that’s aout 16knts gusting 25), so that’s at the outer limit for fun sailing and is verging on a mad challenge!

I don’t know whether the race will be on, but the DoomBar will be 🙂

I hope you all don’t miss me too much. I will be back in that Laser in about a month.

In the meantime

HAVE FUN!!!
